Help – Courses, Hole Map & AI Caddy
The Golf Mentor app turns your iPhone into a GPS caddy — giving you hole distances, interactive maps, and an AI Caddy to advise you on every shot.
Finding Your Course
- From the Dashboard, tap Courses.
- Your recently played courses are listed first.
- To find a nearby course, tap Find Nearby. The app uses your iPhone GPS to search within a few kilometres.
- Select your course from the list to open it.
Note: location services must be enabled for your iPhone in iOS Settings → Privacy → Location Services → The Golf Mentor.
Navigating the Hole Map
- The Hole Map shows a GPS overhead view of the current hole.
- Distances to the front, centre, and back of the green are displayed.
- Tap the 1st / hole number button to jump to a specific hole.
- Use the Next Hole and Previous Hole buttons to step through the course.
- Hazards, bunkers, and the green outline are marked where GPS data is available.
Using the AI Caddy
- From the Courses screen, tap the Caddy button for your course.
- The AI Caddy opens a chat interface. It already knows the current hole layout.
- Type your question in the chat box and tap Send.
- Example questions:
- "I'm 148 metres to the front pin, slight uphill. What club?"
- "There's a crosswind from the right on this hole. Advice?"
- "What's the best approach angle to avoid the bunker on the right?"
Menu Navigation in the iOS App
- Top-left (☰) button — opens the left sidebar with page-specific links (Back, Next Hole, Previous Hole, feature actions).
- Top-right (☰) button — opens the main navigation (Dashboard, MyHome, ChatGPT5, Settings, Help, Sign Out).
Competition Mode & Social Mode
Use the Enable Social Mode / Enable Comp Mode toggle in the left sidebar to switch between the two modes. The setting is remembered across holes for the session.
- Competition Mode (default) — Club selection is hidden so the app complies with the rules-of-golf restrictions on receiving advice during competition. Use this for stroke play, match play, or any official round.
- Social Mode — Club selection is shown on the hole map and AI Caddy can suggest which club to use based on your distances. An Analyze Last Swing link also appears whenever a swing has been recorded, giving you a quick AI read on your most recent shot. Use Social Mode for practice rounds or casual games where club advice is welcome.
Analyze Last Swing
In Social Mode, an Analyze Last Swing link appears in the left sidebar (☰) once a swing has been recorded for the round. It opens an AI read on your most recent shot.
The sidebar is built at the moment the page loads, so a swing you make while looking at the same page will not add the link straight away. If you have just played a shot and the link is not there:
- Tap Sync Watch in the left sidebar. Despite the name, this simply reloads the current page — so it is worth using even if you are not wearing an Apple Watch.
- Next Hole and Previous Hole reload the page as well, and have the same effect.
- Swings take a few moments to be uploaded and categorised. If the link still does not appear after reloading, the system may simply be catching up — carry on playing and check again after another swing or two.
Watch Low Power Mode
Putting your Apple Watch into Low Power Mode before a round is recommended — it more than halves battery consumption with no effect on swing recording or GPS distances. The one trade-off is that the Watch will not respond immediately to hole changes triggered from your iPhone. The Watch will still change holes automatically as you enter each hole's GPS area. If the automatic change does not happen, you can change the hole manually on the Watch itself.
Course Limits
- Premium membership includes access to a set number of courses per calendar month.
- If you reach your limit, you will be notified. The limit resets on your billing date.
- See iOS Account & Billing help for details.
Unmapped Courses
If your course is not yet mapped, the app will automatically request mapping from our GPS partner. Mapping is usually completed within 24 hours — you will receive an email notification when it is ready.
